Moshalagae Malatji is a District Officer and Teacher in the Lebowakgomo District Office of Limpopo with more than 15 years of experience. Listen to Moshalagae speaking about what integrity means to her, how she has become a beacon of hope in the public service and how she will use her status as an integrity icon to create ripple effects going forward.
Moshalagae is committed to her work and highly skilled in planning for the department’s objectives. She is also decisive and never hesitates to take appropriate action. As a leader, she holds her principals within the district to account and took action against those who failed to submit term schedules. She is aware of how this impacts the delivery of the district’s curriculum to learners and tries her best even in a province that has a difficult teaching and learning environment.
One of the biggest challenges in the district is the pass rate among learners. There is pressure for both the district and the province more broadly to perform well. Teachers and principals will often insist on passing learners that are not adequately prepared for the next grade. However, Moshalagae is steadfast in not passing ill-equipped learners and rather chooses to focus her efforts on how best to improve her district’s classrooms.
